Western New England Earns 8-1 Victory at Johnson State in Non-Conference Action

Golden Bears improve to 5-2 this fall

JOHNSON, Vt. (September 25, 2016) – The Western New England University women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory at Johnson State College earlier today in non-conference action at the JSC Tennis Courts.

Top Performers
• Junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) posted an impressive 8-1 win over Kali Covell and Grace Page at No. 2 doubles. Schrader also remained unbeaten in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 result over Covell at No. 4, while Sell earned a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Katerina Van Woerkom at No. 1.

Match Review
• Western New England rolled through doubles play, claiming all three matches by scores of 8-5, 8-1 and 8-2.
• Junior Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Page at No. 2 singles.
• Jana Somero picked up Johnson State's only point of the match, rallying to defeat junior Jessica Breitweg (Bohemia, N.Y.) 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-3) at No. 3 singles.
• Sell, Schrader, senior captain Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) and freshman Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) were also victorious in singles play.

Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday, as Western New England (5-2) travels to Endicott and Johnson State (6-3) hosts Green Mountain.
