Gordon Defeats Western New England on Senior Day, 7-2

Morgan Schrader, Corey St. Louis post singles wins for Golden Bears   

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 24, 2016) – The Western New England University women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to Gordon College this afternoon on Senior Day in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Top Performers
• Senior captain Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) came from behind to earn a 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 victory over Gordon's Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) at No. 6 singles.
• Freshman Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) remained unbeaten in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Maddie Berry (Paso Robles, Calif.) at No. 5.

Match Review
• Gordon built a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play, before claiming four of the six singles matches. Sophomore Abbie Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) led the way for the Fighting Scots, teaming up with classmate Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) for an 8-3 win over Western New England's No. 1 doubles duo of senior captain Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) and junior Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.).  Denney went on to earn a 6-2, 6-2 result over junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) at No. 1 singles.
• D'Agostino earned a 6-4, opening set win against sophomore Kaelyn Hall (Sugar Land, Tex.) at No. 3 singles, but Hall rallied with 6-4 and 10-6 victories in the second and third sets, respectively.
• St. Louis and Schrader produced Western New England's only points of the match with their respective triumphs at No. 6 and No. 5 singles.

Western New England (4-2, 4-2 CCC) will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference matchup at Johnson State, while Gordon (5-3, 4-2 CCC) returns home to host Nichols on Wednesday.
