Western New England Opens Spring Slate With 9-0 Triumph Over Arcadia

Golden Bears improve to 6-5 in 2016-17

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 12, 2017) – The Western New England University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a 9-0 victory over Arcadia University earlier today at the Shipyard Racquet Club.

Top Performers

• Junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.), who posted a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory over Allyson Naiken at No. 1 singles, also earned a positive result at the top of Western New England's doubles lineup. Sell and freshman Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) topped Zoe Foglia and Amanda Shulski by an 8-6 score.
• Senior Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) also was victorious in both singles and doubles play.

Match Review
• Western New England claimed all six singles matches, with Schrader and classmate Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) coming out on top at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively. Senior Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Janelle Bradley at No. 4, and sophomore Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) earned a 6-3, 6-0 result over Maeghan Myers at No. 5.
• The Golden Bears also rolled through doubles action, as Glantz and Martinelli cruised to an 8-0 win over Naiken/Bradley, and Bauer teamed up with junior Kim Phu (Wolfeboro, N.H.) for a 9-7 victory at No. 3.
