Western New England Earns 6-3 Victory Over Olivet

Golden Bears rally from 2-1 deficit after doubles play

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 16, 2017) – The Western New England University women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to earn a 6-3 victory over Olivet (Mich.) College today in non-conference action at The Shipyard Racquet Club.

Top Performers
• Junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led the way for the Golden Bears, picking up wins in both singles and doubles play.

Doubles Review
• Olivet opened up a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as Rae Claramunt and Rachael Hager defeated senior Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) and sophomore Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) 9-7 at No. 2, and the Miranda Pier/Isabel Snyder duo posted an 8-5 win over freshman Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) and junior Kim Phu (Wolfeboro, N.H.).
• Western New England's doubles point came courtesy of Sell and Schrader, who teamed up for a 9-8 (7-5) victory over Maddy Drikakis and BreAnne Rudlaff at No. 1.

Singles Review
• Western New England rallied to win five of six singles matches to pull out the victory. Sell earned a 6-1, 6-3 result over Drikakis at No. 1, and Glantz, who won her opening set (6-4) over Hager, came from behind to win the third set tiebreaker, 10-2 at No. 2.
• Also picking up key wins for the Golden Bears were senior Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.), who played through darkness to win her No. 4 match 6-1, 2-6 (13-11), Schrader and Bauer.
