Golden Bears Cruise to 9-0 Triumph Over Stevenson

Western New England posts second straight 9-0 victory

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 14, 2017) – The Western New England University women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on its spring break trip with a 9-0 victory over Stevenson University earlier today at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center.

Top Performers
• Freshmen Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) rolled to convincing wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively, and both players picked up wins in doubles action as well.
• Senior Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.), junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) and sophomore Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.)

Doubles Review
• The Golden Bears took all three doubles matches to open up a 3-0 lead. Sell and Schrader earned an 8-3 triumph over Jenna Skove and Kelsi Mentzer at No. 1, while Glantz and Martinelli teamed up for an 8-5 result over Kierstyn Davidson and Christina Endy at No. 2. Junior Kim Phu (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and Bauer completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over Nina Bretz and Emily Herzog at No. 3.

Singles Review
• Western New England rolled through singles play, as Sell set the tone with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Skove at No. 1, before Glantz picked up a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Mentzer at No. 2. Schrader earned a 6-0, 6-1 result over Davidson at No. 3, and senior Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) won by a 6-4, 6-2 result at No. 4. Rounding out Western New England's singles winners were Martinelli, who was victorious at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Bretz at No. 5, and Bauer, who defeated Herzog 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
