Martinelli & Cote post singles wins for Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 23, 2017) – The Western New England University women's tennis team was defeated by Eastern Nazarene College, 6-3, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Top Performers
• Junior Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) and freshman Jessica Cote (Groton, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

• Freshman Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) set the tone for Eastern Nazarene with wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Match Review
• The Lions got off to a 2-1 lead with victories at the top two doubles flights. Western New England's duo of senior Kim Phu (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and sophomore Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) got the Golden Bears a point with their 8-5 triumph at No. 3.
• Eastern Nazarene was victorious at the top four singles positions, but Martinelli rallied to earn a 2-6, 7-4, 10-5 result at No. 5 and Cote registered a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6.
