Western New England Edged by Hamline, 5-4
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 22, 2018) – The Western New England University women's tennis team was edged by Hamline (Minn.) University, 5-4, on Thursday at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
Hamline got off to a strong start with wins in two of the three doubles flights. Junior Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) and freshman Kyra Palumbo (Albany, N.Y.) teamed up for an 8-6 win over Claire Witt and Janie Schwartz at No. 3.
In singles play, sophomore Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) posted a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Natalie Pieterick at No. 2, while senior Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.) earned a 6-2, 6-7, 10-4 result over Ella Seehafer at No. 3.
Martinelli completed another successful day with her 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Chloe McElmury at No. 5. The junior went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play during Western New England's two matches in Florida this week.
