Nine Golden Bears Receive Scholar-Athlete Recognition from ITA

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 27, 2018) –
Nine members of the Western New England University men's and women's tennis teams earned Scholar-Athlete honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the organization announced on Tuesday. 

In order to qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, players must be a varsity letter winner with a grade point average of 3.50 or higher for the current academic year while being enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Women's Honorees:

Morgan Schrader (Sophomore | Burnt Hills, N.Y.)
Rachel Bauer (Sophomore | Palmer, Mass.)
Kyra Palumbo (Freshman | Albany, N.Y.)
Sydney Lewis (Freshman | Goffstown, N.H.)
Christina D'Agostino (Senior | Bohemia, N.Y.)
Maylene LaPress (Freshman | Bedford, N.H.)
Kim Phu (Senior | Wolfeboro, N.H.)

Men's Honorees:

Justin Kohut (Junior | South Windsor, Conn.)
Luke Surawski (Sophomore | Wethersfield, Conn.)
Brendan O'Connell (Freshman | North Providence, R.I.)

Western New England's nine honorees are among 4,328 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis to be recognized by the ITA.

Additionally, the women's tennis team was among 735 squads to be named an All-Academic Team for posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or higher.
