Western New England Falls to Roger Williams in Regular Season Finale, 9-0

Golden Bears will open CCC Tournament on the road next Wednesday

BRISTOL, R.I. (October 3, 2017) –
The Western New England University women's tennis team fell to Roger Williams University by a 9-0 score in its regular season finale on Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Match Review
• Roger Williams took all three doubles matchups to open up a 3-0 lead. Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) teamed up to shut out Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.) 8-0. Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) and Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) defeated Maylene LaPress (Bedford, N.H.) and Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) by a score of 8-2. Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine)and Allie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass.) took down Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) and Kim Phu (Wolfeboro, N.H.) 8-1.

• In singles play, the Hawks swept in three matches 6-0, 6-0. Hughes took down LaPress, Stankiewicz defeated D'Agostino, and Riley shut out Jessica Cote (Groton, Conn.). Akerman won 6-3, 6-0 against Schrader. Bauer was the closest Golden Bear to earning a win, but Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) was able to take the match 7-6, 6-2. Grinavic posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Martinelli.

Western New England (4-6, 3-5 CCC) will be on the road when the CCC Tournament gets underway next Wednesday, while Roger Williams (10-3, 6-2 CCC) will host a first round match at home.
