WNEC ends season with TCCC wins over Salve Regina and Wentworth

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team ended its season on a strong note with a pair of 3-0 victories over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology and Salve Regina Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Golden Bears downed the Leopards in the opener 25-17, 25-10, 25-9, and posted a 25-16, 25-17, 25-11 decision over the Seahawks in the final match.

Sophomore setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) led the way with 48 assists, with 25 assists and four service aces coming against Salve Regina.

In the Wentworth match, freshman outside hitter Caroline Bitters (Greenfield, MA) had seven kills and eight digs while senior outside hitter/middle blocker Sarah Wainwright (Gilford, NH) contributed 10 digs.

Junior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) compiled nine kills, 18 digs, and a pair of service aces against Salve Regina. Junior middle blocker Christina Longto (Kingston, NY) chipped-in with seven kills and four blocks.

Bitters and sophomore outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) each totaled six kills.

In the second match of the afternoon, Salve Regina defeated Wentworth 3-0 (25-21, 25-9, and 25-21).

Western New England College evened its record at 16-16 after capturing its fifth consecutive match. The Golden Bears also finished sixth in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 5-5 mark.

Coach Charlie Haer's team will open play in the conference tournament quarterfinals on the road Tuesday (Nov. 4) against an opponent to be determined.
