Western New England College has rough day at the MIT Quad Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team had a rough day at the MIT Quad Tournament dropping all three of its matches Saturday (Oct. 18).

Host MIT defeated the Golden Bears 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-17) in the opening morning match.

Milliken (Ill.) then posted a 3-1 decision (23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20) before St. Mary's (Ind.) took a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-12, 25-19).

Western New England College sophomore setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) made the All-Tournament Team. She had 46 matches and 25 digs in the three matches

In the MIT match, sophomore outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) had 16 digs for the Golden Bears.

Against Milliken, junior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) totaled seven kills and 16 digs. Junior middle blocker Christina Longto (Kingston, NY) had six blocks. Cervone recorded five kills and nine digs against St. Mary's.

MIT, Milliken, and St. Mary's each won two of three matches, but the Engineers claimed the team title with a 5-4 record in games played.

Alex May of MIT was selected the tournment MVP.
