Western New England College rolls past Gordon in quarterfinal round match of TCCC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) had 17 kills and junior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) compiled 32 assists as second-seeded Western New England College posted a 3-0 victory over seventh-seeded Gordon in a quarterfinal round match of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Women's Volleyball Tournament Tuesday evening (Nov. 3).

The game scores were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15.

This was the ninth consecutive win for the Golden Bears who raised their record to 25-8.

Cervone and Boes each added three service aces for the Golden Bears, and totaled 18 and 14 digs, respectively, for their respective double-doubles.. 

WNEC also received nice outings from junior middle blocker Lauren Landri (New Canaan, CT) who contributed 11 kills and junior libero Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) who had 20 digs.

Senior middle blocker Meredith Phipps (Sandy, UT) led the Fighting Scots (8-25) with eight kills, and sophomore outside hitter Claudia Amado (Glastonbury, CT) and freshman outside hitter Keri Hustus (Eastford, CT) each had six kills.

Sophomore setter Sasha Duprey (Concord, NH) chipped-in with 21 assists while senior libero Kaylie McCallister (Pacific Palisades, CA) had 20 digs.

Western New England College will meet third-seeded Colby-Sawyer (a 3-0 winner over sixth-seeded Salve Regina) at 7:00 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 5) in a semifinal round match at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
