Golden season continues as Western New England College advances to TCCC championship match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The record-breaking season continues for the Western New England College women's volleyball team.

The second-seeded Golden Bears rallied for a 3-1 victory over third-seeded Colby-Sawyer to advance to the championship match of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament Thursday evening (Nov. 5).

Western New England College will host fourth-seeded Roger Williams (a 3-0 upset winner over top-seeded Endicott) Saturday (Nov. 7) at a time to be determined.

This also was the 10th consecutive win for the Golden Bears who are now 26-8.

After dropping the first set 25-21, WNEC came back to win 25-22, 25-14, and 25-23 before 500 boisterous fans at the Alumni Healthful Living Center (AHLC).

Senior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) compiled her 13th double-double of the season with 26 kills (which tied her season high) and 16 digs.

Junior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) delivered a season best 45 assists (including her 1,000th of the season) in one of the top performances of her career.

Junior outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) also posted a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Junior middle blocker Lauren Landri (New Canaan, CT) contributed 10 kills while junior libero Marci Egbert (Wayne, NJ) had 16 digs after missing four matches with an injury.

Colby-Sawyer senior setter Genny Moore (Centerville, MA) had 33 assists to become the school's all-time leader in that category (4,031).

Junior outside hitter Michelle Doody (Franklin, MA) had a fine match with 14 kills while junior middle hitter Stef Turner (Boxborough, MA) had eight kills.

Senior libero Mickey Lapan (Medway, MA) chipped-in with 17 digs for the Chargers who now have a 19-13 record.
