Western New England College falls to Roger Williams in four sets in TCCC Championship match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –  The third-seeded Roger Williams women’s volleyball team captured The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Women’s Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 victory over second-seeded Western New England College Saturday afternoon (Nov. 7) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The game scores were 25-17, 16-25, 25-18, and 25-21.

The Hawks, who improved their record to 21-10, receive an automatic invitation to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Junior middle hitter Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, CT) and freshman outside hitter Kelsey Twarog (Barkhamsted, CT) each compiled 11 kills.

Junior libero Jill Hurd (Sunapee, NH) totaled 41 digs while freshman setter Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, CT) added 36 assists.

WNEC, which was playing in its first conference title match, received 14 kills and nine digs from senior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA).

Junior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) contributed 28 assists and 10 digs while junior libero Marci Egbert (Wayne, NJ) chipped-in with 22 digs.

With a 26-9 record, the Golden Bears are in consideration for an invitation to the ECAC New England Division III Tournament.
