Baseball Picked 5th in CCC Preseason Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 23, 2022) - The Commonwealth Coast Conference announced their third preseason poll of the spring today, projecting the Western New England baseball team to finish fifth of nine teams in the 2022 season.

Western New England returns three of their top four bats from a season ago as they look to win their first CCC championship since 2018. Sophomore Aaron Cole (Forestdale, Mass.) looks to build upon a .316 average from the 2021 season as a first-year student athlete. Cole will be joined by teammates Cody Waterbury (Danbury, Conn.), and Ben Harrison (Newtown, Conn.) that will return to the starting nine for the Golden Bears this season.

On the mound, Western New England will look to senior Kevin Hummer (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to pave the way for the Golden Bears. Andrew Chiodi, who made two saves in the 2020 season, returns to the Golden Bears bullpen looking to close out CCC opponents.

The Golden Bears open their 2022 campaign on Wednesday, March 1 at Clark University. WNE plays the first 12 games on the road before hosting Westfield State on Friday, March 25 at 3:30 pm.
