Willis Collects Fifth Rookie of the Week Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 18, 2022) – After picking up another home run on the week, first year CJ Willis collected his fifth CCC Rookie of the Week accolade, as announced by the Commonwealth Coast Conference office this afternoon. 

Willis collected seven hits during the four-game week for the Golden Bears in 16 at bats. The first year went 2-3, including lacing a double and scoring three runs in a 7-7 tie with Amherst College in a midweek non-conference contest. Willis followed up that performance by collecting five hits in eight at bats in two conference games against Roger Williams University. In those two games, Willis collected a home run and four RBIs while stealing two bases in the weekend tilt. 

In the 2022 campaign, Willis has slashed .392 at the dish, picking up 38 hits, 16 for extra bases including eight home runs. Willis has a team best 27 RBIs, as well as a scoring a team high 30 runs for the Golden Bears. The Golden Bears return to the baseball diamond on Tuesday, April 19 at 3:30 pm when they travel to Nichols College to meet the Bison. WNE returns home to Trelease Park on Wednesday, April 20 for a 3:30 first pitch with the Anchormen of Rhode Island College before welcoming the Rams of Suffolk University to Trelease Park on Saturday, April 23 at 12:00 and 3:00 pm.
