Willis Picks Up CCC Rookie of the Week for Third Time

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 4, 2022) – After slashing .470 on the week, first year CJ Willis has been honored with CCC Rookie of the Week accolades for the third time this season. 

Willis started off the week 3/5 at the plate, scoring two runs and picking up an RBI for the Golden Bears in a conference opening victory over Nichols College by a final score of 9-5. Willis came back around with a 1/3 performance, scoring two added runs and picking up another RBI in a 17-11 win over UMass-Boston the very next afternoon. 

Willis would cap off the weekend going 4/9 in a doubleheader tilt at Endicott College, scoring one run on the weekend. In total this season, Willis is hitting .375 at the plate, collecting 24 hits in 64 at bats while scoring nine runs of the Golden Bears. Willis has ten extra base hits this season, including four doubles, one triple, and five home runs, good for 16 RBIs, a team lead. Willis has also swiped five bases on the season. 

Western New England travels to Wentworth Institute tomorrow, April 5 at 6:30 pm for a CCC showdown with the Leopards. WNE will host Keene State in non-conference action on Thursday, April 7 at 3:30 pm, while welcoming Gordon College on Saturday, April 9 for CCC play starting at 12:00 pm.
