Golden Bears Defeat Brooklyn College in Florida Finale, 8-1

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 23, 2018) – The Western New England University men's tennis team defeated Brooklyn College, 8-1, in its final match in Florida on Friday at the USTA National Campus.

Western New England won all three doubles flights and five of six singles spots.

In doubles play, sophomore David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) teamed up with junior Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) for an 8-3 win over Justin Vasquez and Rohan Mathur at No 1.

Sophomore Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Max Gordon (Middleton, Mass.) claimed an 8-2 victory over Julian Calame-Mars and Samuel Meyerovich at No. 2, while freshmen Matthew Russell (Auburn, Mass.) and Peter Stegemann (Falmouth, Maine) defeated Chevaughn Mattis and Kevin Gryka 8-1 at No. 3.

Kalmer was also victorious in singles action with his 6-1, 6-3 result over Vasquez at No. 1, while Stegemann topped Calame-Mars 6-2, 6-2 in the third spot.

Brooklyn's only win in the match came courtesy of Mathur, who posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Surawski at No. 2.

Rounding out the final three spots in the singles lineup, Gordon won 6-0, 6-1 against Meyerovich, junior Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) earned a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Mattis, and sophomore Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) defeated Gryka, 6-0, 6-0.
