Western New England Wraps up Regular Season with 9-0 Loss at Eastern Nazarene

Golden Bears will open CCC Tournament on Saturday at Roger Williams

QUINCY, Mass. (April 24, 2018) –
The Western New England University men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a 9-0 loss to Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the ENC Tennis Courts. 

Eastern Nazarene took all three doubles matches to open up a 3-0 lead. Sophomore David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and junior Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) fell to Alex Partyka and Laurent Ruttkowski by an 8-1 score at No. 1, while Henry Siercke and Santiago Camero defeated freshman Max Gordon (Middleton, Mass.) and sophomore Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) 8-1 in the second spot. At No. 3, junior Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) and freshman Matthew Russell (Auburn, Mass.) dropped an 8-1 decision to Shaw Campbell and Kaden Swarr.

In singles play, Kalmer lost his first CCC match of the season to Partyka, 6-2, 6-4 in the top position. Siercke defeated Surawski 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, and Gordon fell to Ruttkowski, 7-6, 6-0 at No. 3.

Camero downed Tran 6-1, 6-4 at the fourth position while sophomore Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) was edged by Kyle Pierson 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 5 and Swarr notched a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Russell in the sixth spot.

Western New England (8-6, 3-5 CCC), which earns the sixth seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament, will travel to third-seeded Roger Williams for a quarterfinal match on Saturday. Eastern Nazarene (15-3, 7-1 CCC) hosts Bridgewater State in its regular season finale on Saturday.
