Kalmer, Kohut & Surawski Receive All-CCC Accolades

CCC Release

Kalmer named to first team singles and second team doubles

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 26, 2018) –
Three members of the Western New England University men's tennis team received All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) honors, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) was named to the All-CCC first team for singles and second team for doubles along with junior Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.), while sophomore Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) landed on the All-CCC third team for singles.

Kalmer enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign, going 12-2 overall and 7-1 in CCC action at the top singles flight, with his only league loss coming to CCC Player of the Year Alex Partyka of Eastern Nazarene College. The sophomore earns All-CCC honors for the second straight season after collecting second team accolades last spring.

Kalmer also teamed up with Kohut to form one of the top doubles duos in the CCC, as they posted a 4-4 conference record and a 9-5 mark overall. Kohut's All-CCC doubles nod represents the third of his career after being named to the second team with Andres Otero as a freshman in 2016 and third team with Kalmer last season.

Surawski was solid all season at No. 2 singles for Western New England, going 3-5 against CCC opponents and 6-7 overall on his way to All-CCC third team recognition.

The sixth-seeded Golden Bears (8-6, 3-5 CCC) will travel to third-seeded Roger Williams University for the first round of the CCC Tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m.
