Golden Bears Top Elms, 132-106, in Second Semester Opener

Lief, Sheinhait & Elliott lead Western New England with two event wins each  

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 11, 2017) – The Western New England University women's swimming team returned to action for the first time in over a month with a 132-106 victory over Elms College this afternoon at the Alumni Healthful Living Center Pool.

Top Performers
• Junior Janelle Lief (San Jose, Calif.) was among a trio of Golden Bears to post a pair of event wins, as she finished first in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.57) and 50-yard butterfly (31.36 seconds).
• Junior Erika Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass.) captured consecutive events, earning 18 points towards Western New England's team score with her first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (27.97 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (1:02.72). Sheinhait also registered a second place effort in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.33).
• Freshman Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) contributed wins in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.52) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.18).

The Golden Bears and Blazers split the two relay events, with Western New England's 200-yard medley relay team of Elliott, Lief, sophomore Megan Empie (Delmar, N.Y.) and freshman Brittany Bosma (North Port, Fla.) taking first place with a time of 2:06.92.
