Remillard Registers Second Career Hat Trick as Golden Bears Open Season With 4-0 Win Over Bridgewater State

Remillard now ranks third in program history with 34 career goals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 1, 2017) –
Senior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) registered his second career hat trick as the Western New England University men's soccer team earned a 4-0, season-opening victory over Bridgewater State University on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Remillard picked up right where he left off following last season's 17-goal campaign, as he found the back of the net three times over the first 45 minutes of action to help stake Western New England to a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.
• Making his first career start, sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) stopped all six of the shots that he faced in just over 73 minutes of action to earn the victory.
• Sophomore Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) and senior Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) were credited with assists after setting up Remillard's first and second goals, respectively.

• Junior Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) led the Bridgewater State offense with three shots on goal.

Match Review
• Western New England got on the board in the eighth minute, when Remillard received a pass from Brown near the top of the box, shook off a defender, and fired a shot into the top right corner of the net.
• Just over six minutes later, Pingree lofted a long pass up the field to Remillard, who chased the ball down and finished in the lower left corner from outside the box to make it 2-0.
• In the 27th minute, Bridgewater State sophomore goalkeeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) misplayed a clear attempt, delivering the ball right to Western New England sophomore midfielder Mike Doyle (Chicopee, Mass.). Doyle capitalized on the turnover, sending a shot over the head of an out of position Morgado and into the net.
• Western New England made it 4-0 in the 43rd minute, when freshman Dan Bronke (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped a pass over the Bridgewater State defense to Remillard, who split two defenders and completed his hat trick with a left-footed finish.

Notes
• With his three-goal effort, Remillard passed Dave Neves and now ranks third in program history with 34 career tallies. The senior captain needs 18 goals to match Mark Staropoli for second on the all-time list.
• Western New England outshot Bridgewater State 16-9, including 10-5 in the first half.
• Freshman Lury Assobmo (Brockton, Mass.) saw his first collegiate action after coming on in relief of Husted in the 74th minute.
