Remillard Nets Two More as Golden Bears Defeat UNE in CCC Opener, 3-0

Senior forward leads NCAA Division III with 12 goals this fall

BIDDEFORD, Maine (September 16, 2017) – Led by a pair of goals from senior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.), the Western New England University men's soccer team opened Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 3-0 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field. 

Top Performers
• Remillard, who entered Saturday's contest leading NCAA Division III with ten goals, added two to his total with tallies in the 15th and 65th minutes.
• Making his second consecutive appearance in net, junior Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) registered a four-save shutout.  
• Sophomore defender Nick Kubacki (Belchertown, Mass.) scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the second half.

Match Review
• Remillard staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead at the 14:39 mark with an unassisted strike.
• Western New England led by the same margin at the break, before Remillard doubled the advantage in the 65th minute,
• Less than two minutes later, Kubacki found the back of the net with the help of senior Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) to extend the margin to 3-0.

Notes
• Western New England outshot UNE 15-7 and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
• Remillard has scored at least one goal in five of six matches this season.
• Brewer is 2-0 with a pair of shutouts since taking over the goalkeeper position.
