Golden Bears Top Salve Regina, 4-0, with Flurry of Second Half Goals

Pingree, Remillard, Liccardi and Labonte score for Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 23, 2017) – Four different players found the back of the net in the second half as the Western New England University men's soccer team kept rolling with a 4-0 victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Senior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) factored into two of Western New England's four goals, recording an assist on the opener before netting his 15th of the season.
• Senior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.), junior midfielder Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and freshman forward Josh Labonte (Ludlow, Mass.) also scored for the Golden Bears.
• Junior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) recorded three saves en route to his third clean sheet in four starts this season.

Match Review
• After a scoreless first half, Western New England broke through for the game's first goal three minutes into the second period when Pingree received a pass from Remillard and fired a shot into the left corner of the net.
• Remillard then got in on the action in the 73rd minute, finishing from close range after a loose ball landed at his feet.
• Liccardi made it 3-0 at the 83:22 mark when he beat Salve Regina junior goalkeeper Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) after receiving a beautifully played ball from sophomore Mike Doyle (Chicopee, Mass.).
• Labonte capped the scoring with his first career goal in the 88th minute.

Notes
• Saturday's win gives Western New England its fifth in a row, matching the longest streak for the team since the 2013 season.
• The Golden Bears outshot the Seahawks 17-15 and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
• Brewer is 4-0 since taking over the goalkeeper role back on September 13.
• Remillard, the NCAA Division III goals leader with 15 through eight games, has scored in all but one contest this season.
