Golden Bears score three goals in 10:17 stretch midway through second half

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 18, 2017) –
A strong second half performance lifted the Western New England University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Roger Williams University on Wednesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.   

Top Performers
• Sophomore midfielder Ty Champagne (Watertown, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears, snapping a scoreless tie in the 61st minute with his second goal of the season. Champagne later added an assist on Western New England's third goal.
• Sophomore defender Bryan Doyle (Southington, Conn.) and graduate midfielder Kory Caster (Wilbraham, Mass.) also found the back of the net during Western New England's second half surge that saw the Golden Bears score three goals in a span of 10:17 midway through the period.
• Junior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) played the final 45 minutes in net and earned his fifth win of the season, making three saves in the process.

Match Review
• After a scoreless first half, Western New England broke through for the game's opening goal at the 60:07 mark. Sophomore forward Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) attempted to play a ball into the box to senior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.), but a Roger Williams defender poked the ball away. The ball landed right at the feet of Champagne, who took one touch and unleashed a shot from several yards outside the box into the upper left corner of the net.
• The Golden Bears added to their lead just 5:31 later, when Doyle dribbled down the final third of the field, charged past his defender and ripped a shot that deflected off another Hawk defender and into the net.
• Caster capped Western New England's offensive surge in the 71st minute, when he received a pass from Champagne on the left side of the box and placed a shot in the netting inside the far post.

• Western New England outshot Roger Williams 20-15 and held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
• Roger Williams sophomore goalkeeper Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) finished with eight saves.
• Junior goalkeeper Tyler Lavigne (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) started in net and made two saves for the Golden Bears.
