Remillard Brothers Lead Western New England to 5-1 Win Over MCLA

Troy and Matt Remillard net two goals each in non-conference triumph

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 3, 2017) – Senior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) and his younger brother Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) scored two goals each as the Western New England University men's soccer team rolled to a 5-1, non-conference victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Sunday afternoon in rainy conditions at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Coming off his second career hat trick in Friday's season-opening win over Bridgewater State, the elder Remillard was again an offensive force, netting two more goals on just three shots.
Matt Remillard, a freshman in his first season with the program, scored his first career goal in the 38th minute before adding another early in the second half.
• Graduate midfielder Kory Caster (Wilbraham, Mass.) also found the back of the net for the Golden Bears, while sophomores Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) and Mike Doyle (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman Josh Labonte (Ludlow, Mass.) recorded assists.

• Senior forward Romeo Grey (Mashpee, Mass.) accounted for MCLA's lone goal in the 59th minute.

Match Review
Troy Remillard opened the scoring for Western New England just over four minutes into the contest, when he dribbled past a pair of MCLA defenders and fired a shot that rung off the top of the left post into the net.
• The Golden Bears doubled their advantage in the 21st minute, as Caster scored on a deflection off of an MCLA defender after receiving a pass in the middle of the box from Brown.
Troy Remillard then made it 3-0 in the 27th minute, this time on a penalty kick after MCLA was whistled for a foul in the box. MCLA senior goalkeeper Kamron Anderson (Springfield, Mass.) was able to get his hands on the ball, but the shot proved to be too powerful as it deflected into the top right corner of the net.
Matt Remillard got in on the action at the 37:58 mark, scoring his first career goal less than two minutes after subbing into the game for his brother. The freshman forward finished in the lower left corner after being sprung on a breakaway with a nice feed from Doyle.
• Western New England added one more goal in the 57th minute, when Matt Remillard headed home a cross from Labonte, before Grey got MCLA on the board at the 58:56 mark to cap the scoring.

Notes
• The Golden Bears outshot the Trailblazers 31-4 and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• Troy and Matt Remillard currently rank first and second in the CCC with five and two goals, respectively, while Brown's two assists also lead the conference.
