Golden Bears Drop Regular Season Finale at Gordon, 2-0

Western New England will enter CCC Tournament as No. 3 seed

WENHAM, Mass. (October 24, 2017) –
The Western New England University men's soccer team dropped its regular season finale, 2-0, at Gordon College on Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Complex.

With the loss, Western New England (11-6-1, 6-2-1 CCC) drops to third in the CCC standings and will host sixth-seeded Roger Williams in the CCC Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday at a time to be determined. Gordon (11-5-1, 6-2-1 CCC) jumps to second place and will take on No. 7 seed Nichols on Saturday.

Top Performers
• Senior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) accounted for two of Western New England's six shots on goal.

• Junor midfielder Josh Beveridge (Anchorage, Alaska) and sophomore forward David Cochran (Bellville, Ohio) both scored for the Fighting Scots.
• Gordon freshman goalkeeper Wesley Sprague (Naperville, Ill.) registered a five-save shutout.

Match Review
• Beveridge staked the Fighting Scots to a 1-0 lead 7:54 into the contest, when he buried a shot into the left side of the net from close range on a feed from sophomore Matt Chartier (Concord, N.H.).
• The Golden Bears nearly tied the contest in the closing seconds of the first half, as junior midfielder Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) sent a corner kick into the box and senior defender Connor Rubin (Guilderland, N.Y.) got his head on the ball, but a Gordon defender was there to clear the ball as it approached the goal line.
• The Fighting Scots tacked on an insurance goal in the 81st minute, when Cochran dribbled into the box from the left and curled a shot into the right side of the net.
• Western New England had a couple of late opportunities to get on the board, including a shot by Remillard in the final minute, but Sprague came through with a save to preserve the shutout.

Notes
• Gordon outshot Western New England 15-13, and the two teams were even with four corner kicks each.
• The Golden Bears were held without a goal for just the second time this season.
