Men’s Ice Hockey Suffers 7-4 Loss to Wentworth

EVERETT, Mass. – The Western New England University men's ice hockey team suffered a 7-4 loss to the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.

Top Performers
Western New England received a two-goal effort from junior forward Anthony Frati (Churchville, N.Y.), while seniors Dominic Blad (Springfield, Mass.) and Andrew Green (Plainview, N.Y.) also found the back of the net. Junior defenseman Adam Giacomin (Richmond Hill, Ont.) helped facilitate the offense with three assists.

For Wentworth, senior forward Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) registered a hat trick while freshman Andrew McDonough (Boston, Mass.), sophomore Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.), junior Dante Flori (Waltham, Mass.) and senior Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) contributed one goal apiece.

Game Review
Wentworth struck first on the power play as Tracey scored on a feed from senior Nate Chase (Plainfield, Ill.) midway through the opening period.

Western New England tied the score on Frati's first goal of the game at the 13:58 mark, but McDonough and Busch both found the back of the net late in the period for the Leopards as Wentworth led 3-1 at the first intermission.

The home team added to its advantage with power play tallies by Tracey at 3:50 and 14:18 of the second period, giving Wentworth a 5-1 cushion. Western New England got a goal back with 2:14 remaining in the frame as Frati buried his goal, which came with a man advantage.

Just 4:29 into the third period, Flori scored for Wentworth to put the home team up 6-2. Western New Engand responded with goals by Blad and Green just nine seconds apart (5:36, 5:45) to bring the Golden Bears back to within two, but they would get no closer.

McKenelley capped the scoring at the 9:15 mark of the third period, extending the margin to 7-4, which stood as the final score.

• Western New England outshot Wentworth 40-34 and held a 35-28 advantage in the faceoff circle.
• Frati leads the Golden Bears with four goals through three games this season.
