Endicott Surges Past Men’s Ice Hockey, 5-2

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 1, 2020) – The Western New England University fell to Endicott, 5-2, on Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Olympia Ice Center.

Top Performers
Endicott had five different goal scorers. The Gulls received goals from freshman Mitch Shaheen (North Andover, Mass.), freshman Zach Mazur (Lancaster, N.Y.), junior Jake Simons (Coral Springs, Fla.), senior James Winkler (York, Maine), and freshman Noah Strawn (Wareham, Mass.).

The Golden Bears received goals from junior Nolan Zweep (Abbotsford, B.C.) and senior Dom Blad (Springfield, Mass.). 

Game Review
Endicott got things going early in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead within the first five minutes after Shaheen found the back of the net. The Gulls extended their lead to two with roughly seven minutes left in the period when Mazur got on the scoresheet.

The Golden Bears grabbed one back early in the second period when Zweep fired it into the back of the net during a power play opportunity. Endicott answered midway through the second period when Simons found the back of the net.

During the third period, there was a two minute span in which there were three goals. Winkler found the back of the net for Endicott. Blad scored on a power play to get one back for the Golden Bears. The Gulls answered shortly after on a power play of their own when Strawn snuck it past senior goaltender Kyle Carducci (Rocky Hill, Conn.).

• Endicott held a 39-25 shot advantage.
• Carducci provided the secondary assist on Zweep's goal.
