Men’s Ice Hockey Falls to No. 14 Salve Regina, 7-0

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The No. 14 ranked Salve Regina University ice hockey team scored five first period goals on its way to a 7-0 win over Western New England University on Saturday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink.  

Top Performers
Salve Regina was led by junior forward Danny Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.), who scored two goals and dished out two assists.

Junior forward Erik Udahl (East Walpole, Mass.) also found the back of the net twice, while freshman defenseman Spencer Stanley (South Lyon, Mich.), sophomore forward Matthew Kidney (Leonardo, N.J.) and senior forward Eric Lipa (Lockport, N.Y.) produced one goal and one assist each.

Game Review
Salve Regina struck first on a short-handed opportunity 3:32 into the contest, as Eruzione scored on a feed from Lipa to give the Seahawks an early lead for the second straight night.

At the 8:41 mark of the first period, Udahl tallied his first goal of the contest to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team. Udahl's goal sparked a stretch of four Salve tallies in a span of just over two minutes. Lipa scored at the 9:25 mark, followed by Stanley (9:48) and Udahl again (10:43). The Seahawks led 5-0 at the first intermission.

In the second period, Eruzione scored his second of the night on a power play with 5:37 left in the frame, and Salve added another goal late in the period to cap the scoring in the contest.

Notes
• Salve outshot the Golden Bears 38-8 and held a 46-18 advantage in the faceoff circle.  
• Western New England senior goalie Kyle Carducci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) made 28 saves in 50:35 between the pipes.

Western New England (1-3-1, 0-3-1 CCC) will look to bounce back next Friday night at Becker. Salve (5-0, 4-0 CCC) travels to Wentworth on Friday.
