Western New England Finishes Sixth at Ithaca Invitational

Boyle, Arborio & Monteiro lead Golden Bears

ITHACA, N.Y. (November 3, 2018) – The Western New England University wrestling team finished sixth in the 12-team field at the season-opening Ithaca Invitational following day two action on Saturday at Glazer Arena.

The Golden Bears were led by junior John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) and sophomores Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) and Ryan Monteiro (Wilbraham, Mass.), who all placed in their respective weight classes.

At 184, Boyle finished second after dropping a 4-0 decision to Ithaca's Jake Ashcraft in the championship bout. He opened the day by pinning Stephen Birganti of Norwich (6:04), before reaching the final with a 5-2 decision over Ithaca's Chibueze Chukwuezi.

Monteiro finished third at 157 after coming up short in a close 5-4 decision to Kaidon Winters of RIT in the semifinals. Monteiro pinned No. 1 seed Baltazar Gonzalez (7:09) of AIC in the third place bout.

Arborio turned in a fifth-place finish at 125 with wins over Frank Darwak of Castleton by major decision (15-7) and RIT's Alex Prunoske by decision (13-11).
