Boyle, Goodall & DeLucia Lead Golden Bears at Trinity Tri-Match

Western New England defeats Bantams (31-15) after falling to Huskies (27-14)

HARTFORD, Conn. (February 3, 2019) – The Western New England University wrestling team split a tri-match with Trinity College and the University of Southern Maine on Saturday night at Trinity's Oosting Gymnasium.

The Golden Bears defeated the Bantams 31-15 after falling to the Huskies, 27-14.

Western New England was led by juniors John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) and Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.), and sophomore Justin DeLucia (Holbrook, N.Y.), who all went 2-0 on the night.

Southern Maine 27, Western New England 14
Southern Maine took three of the first four bouts, with Western New England's win coming courtesy of DeLucia's 16-0 result over Jacob Garcia at 141.

Sophomore Ryan Monteiro (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Goodall won decisions at 157 and 174, respectively, and the Golden Bears pulled to within one (15-14) after Boyle registered a 7-1 victory over Raul Gierbolini at 184.

The Huskies took the final two bouts, however, and pulled away for a 27-14 win.

Western New England 31, Trinity 15
In their second match of the night, the Golden Bears built a big lead early and never looked back.

Sophomore Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) got it started with a dominant 19-1 win over Finnegan McGovern at 125, and DeLucia edged Joe Penna 7-5 at 141. Junior Austin Roche (Southborough, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Piedrahita (Westford, Mass.) accepted forfeits at 133 and 149, respectively.

Trinity got on the board with wins at 157 and 165, but the Golden Bears sealed their triumph as Goodall, Boyle and senior Josh Nelson (Bristol, Conn.) were all victorious in their bouts to make it 31-12.

Trinity took the heavyweight matchup, as Mason Sangillo defeated sophomore Dan Price (Nyack, N.Y.) to cut the final margin to 16.

Western New England (8-7) returns home next Saturday to host Plymouth State in a dual meet at the AHLC.
