Western New England Finishes Eighth at Doug Parker Invitational

Boyle captures 184-pound title for second straight season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 17, 2018) – The Western New England University wrestling team turned in an eighth place finish on Saturday at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College at the SC Field House.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 60.5 on their way to eighth place in the 17-team field. Host Springfield College won the team title (111.5), while Centenary (102.5) and Southern Maine (97.5) rounded out the top three.

Western New England was led by junior All-American John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.), who earned the 184-pound championship for the second straight year. Boyle went 4-0 on the day, defeating Ian Darling of Williams (Fall, 3:58), James Valley of Centenary (Technical Fall, 15-0, 4:21), Jeremy Berson of Coast Guard (Fall, 3:46) and Paul Detwiler of Coast Guard (Decision, 8-6).

Also placing for the Golden Bears were sophomores Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) and Ryan Monteiro (Wilbraham, Mass.). Arborio finished sixth at 125, and Monteiro turned in a fifth place performance at 157.
