Men's Soccer Falls to Babson in 2019 Opener, 1-0

Golden Bears unable to overcome early deficit

BABSON PARK, Mass. (August 30, 2019) – An early goal for the home team proved to be the difference in the contest as the Western New England University men's soccer team fell to Babson College, 1-0, in the Golden Bears' 2019 season opener on Friday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Top Performers
Babson sophomore midfielder Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) tallied the lone goal of the game for the Beavers, while senior goalkeeper Steven Heintzelman (Middleton, Mass.) registered a four-save shutout.

Western New England was limited to four shots on goal, with senior defender Nick Kubacki (Belchertown, Mass.) accounting for two of the attempts.

Game Review
Babson pulled ahead just over five minutes into the contest on Collins' unassisted strike, and the Beavers maintained their edge at the break with Heintzelman stopping a pair of shots over the opening 45 minutes.

The Golden Bears outshot the home team 7-5 in the second half, but they were unable to find the back of the net. A late header attempt by senior forward Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.) was stopped by Heintzelman as Babson held on to secure the win.
