Ben Mielnikowski Named CCC Defensive Player/Rookie of the Week

CCC Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 21, 2019) – Freshman goalkeeper Ben Mielnikowski (Feeding Hills, Mass.) of the Western New England University men's soccer team has been recognized by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) as both the Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Mielnikowski earns these honors after registering a pair of shutouts over the weekend in Western New England's road wins over the University of New England and Husson.

Making his second start of the season against the Nor'easters on Saturday, Mielnikowski stopped both of the shots he faced in a 3-0 triumph for the Golden Bears.

The freshman goalkeeper started his second straight contest on Sunday at Husson, making five saves as Western New England posted a 2-0 victory over the Eagles.

In five appearances and over 300 minutes of action this season, Mielnikowski has yet to surrender a goal, collecting nine saves and three shutouts in the process.

A 2019 graduate of Agawam High School, Mielnikowski played four years of soccer and two years of baseball for the Brownies.

Western New England (11-4-1, 3-2 CCC) travels to Endicott on Wednesday night before returning home to host Roger Williams on Saturday. The Golden Bears wrap up their regular season slate at Curry next Tuesday.
