Men’s Soccer Tops Worcester State 2-0 in Non-Conference Action

Claflin & Argyle score for Golden Bears

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 6, 2019) – The Western New England University men's soccer team defeated Worcester State University, 2-0, on Friday evening in non-conference action at Coughlin Field.

Top Performers
Senior forwards Brendan Claflin (Burlington, Mass.) and Charlie Argyle (Marshfield, Mass.) both found the back of the net for the Golden Bears, while senior goalkeeper Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) posted a three-save clean sheet.

Game Review
Claflin staked Western New England to a 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute, when he collected the rebound from an initial shot that was saved by Worcester State goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) and buried the second attempt into the back of the net.

Worcester State had its best opportunity to tie the game in the 62nd minute, when senior Alfred Koroma (Millbury, Mass.) got free on a breakaway. After dribbling around Husted, Koroma took a shot at the empty cage, but it was swept off the goal line by Western New England sophomore defender Larsen Keys (Norfolk, Mass.) to keep the Golden Bears ahead.

Seven minutes later, Argyle provided Western New England with an insurance goal when he converted from the penalty spot at the 69:45 mark.

• The Golden Bears outshot the Lancers 18-11, while Worcester State held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
• Through three games, Argyle leads Western New England with five points (2 goals, 1 assist).
