Men’s Soccer Breaks Out Offensively in 5-0 Win over Nichols

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 5, 2019) – The Western New England University men's soccer team turned in its best offensive showing of the season in a 5-0 victory over Nichols College on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
Senior defender Nick Kubacki (Belchertown, Mass.) led the way with a pair of goals, while seniors Brendan Claflin (Burlington, Mass.) and Arcel Kabongo-Ngoy (Lubumbashi, DR Congo) and sophomore Peter Wunderlich (New Milford, Conn.) also found the back of the net for the Golden Bears.

Senior goalkeeper Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) was forced to make just one save over his 75+ minutes in net.

Game Review
Claflin gave the Golden Bears an early lead just a minute into the game when he slotted home a shot from close range as the ball landed at his feet after bouncing off a Nichols defender.

With 5:34 left in the half, Western New England doubled its advantage on Kabongo-Ngoy's first goal of the season.

The Golden Bears continued to add to their lead in the second half with goals from Kubacki in the 49th and 59th minutes, respectively.

Western New England capped the scoring with 5:26 to play in the contest, when Wunderlich one-timed a cross from junior Josh Labonte (Ludlow, Mass.) into the net.

• Western New England outshot Nichols 32-5 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• The shutout marks Western New England's seventh clean sheet this season.
