Men’s Soccer Hosting Vs. Cancer Game on Saturday
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England University men's soccer program has teamed up with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Vs. Cancer program to raise awareness and funds for local kids with cancer.
The team's efforts throughout this season will culminate in Western New England hosting a "Vs. Cancer" game on Saturday, as the Golden Bears take on Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at 2 p.m.
"For us to have the opportunity to join in the fight against pediatric cancer is a special opportunity," said head coach Devin O'Neill. "There is nothing more heartbreaking to see than children sick and struggling, so any strides that we can make in this fight and any small part that we can play is wonderful."
The Western New England men's soccer team has raised over $2,200 towards its goal of $3,000, while the Soccer Vs. Cancer 2019 campaign has raised nearly $75,000 with an overall goal of $100,000.
Started by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player Chase Jones, Vs. Cancer empowers sports teams, athletes, and communities to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.
