Keys Lifts Men’s Soccer to 1-0 Win over Wentworth in CCC Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 28, 2019) – A 79th minute goal by sophomore defender Larsen Keys (Norfolk, Mass.) lifted the Western New England University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in the Golden Bears' Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener at Suprenant Field.

Keys provided the Golden Bears with all of the offense they would need, while senior goalkeeper Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) posted a two-save shutout.

Wentworth sophomore goalie Robbie West (Weymouth, Mass.) finished with five saves for the Leopards.

Game Review
After a scoreless first half, Western New England had an opportunity to get on the board in the 52nd minute. Senior Brendan Claflin (Burlington, Mass.) got in behind the Wentworth defense, but West turned aside his attempt to keep the game tied.

Three and a half minutes later, Husted made a save on a shot by Wentworth junior Nathan Gosselin (Hudson, N.H.).

The Golden Bears struck for the only goal of the contest with 11:55 to play. Following a long throw-in that reached the box, Keys collected a loose ball and had his first shot blocked by a Wentworth defender. Keys was able to secure the rebound and bury his second attempt, however, giving the sophomore his first career goal.
