Western New England Places Seventh at Doug Parker Invitational

McLinden & Boyle place second in their respective weight classes

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 19, 2016) – The Western New England University wrestling team placed seventh in the 16-team field today at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College at the SC Field House.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 83.5 to finish ahead of Plymouth State (73.5), East Stroudsburg (63.0), Rhode Island College (54.0) and six other squads. Springfield captured the team title (195.5), while Coast Guard (159.5) and Centenary (128.5) rounded out the top three.

Top Performers
• Individually, junior Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) was one of two Golden Bears to register runner-up finishes in their respective bracket. McLinden placed second at 133 pounds, going 4-1 on the day. He reached the final with a 4-3 decision over Dylan Jones of Wesleyan, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Springfield's Andrew Mastrangelo in the first-place bout.
• Freshman John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) had another strong day, going 4-1 at 184 and reaching the final, where he lost a 9-4 decision to Christophe Perreault of Plymouth State.

Other Notable Performances
• Junior Dom Liquori (Springfield, Mass.) posted a fourth place finish at 197, while junior Lamont Wallace (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished fifth at 149.

Western New England will be off until Friday, December 2, when the Golden Bears open their dual meet schedule on the road at head coach Mike Sugermeyer's alma mater, Rhode Island College.
