Western New England Splits with Mount Saint Vincent & WPI

Goodall posts 2-0 record with wins by forfeit and decision  

WORCESTER, Mass. (January 11, 2017) – The Western New England University wrestling team split a pair of matches with the College of Mount Saint Vincent and Worcester Polytechnic Institute earlier today at WPI's Sports & Recreation Center.

Top Performers
• Freshman Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the lone Golden Bear to post a 2-0 record on the day, winning by forfeit and decision against Mount Saint Vincent and WPI, respectively.

WNE 35, Mount Saint Vincent 21
After falling behind 15-0 in the first match of the day, Western New England rallied to take six straight bouts, including a win by fall (4:50) for freshman Taylor Pfaff (Albany, N.Y.) at 157 pounds and a technical fall (16-1, 6:49) for senior captain Brian Donovan (Manchester, Conn.) at 197.

WPI 37, WNE 3
The second match of the day saw WPI, which is ranked fifth in this week's New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Division III Poll, open up a 22-0 lead through five bouts before Goodall broke up the shutout with a 7-4 decision over Chase Lind at 165. The freshman's victory represented Western New England's lone triumph of the match as the Engineers claimed the final four bouts on their way to a 37-3 win.
