Golden Bears Open 2017-18 Season with Seventh Place Finish at Ithaca Invitational

Sophomore John Boyle finishes third at 184 pounds

PROVIDENCE, R.I.. (November 4, 2017) –
The Western New England University wrestling team opened its 2017-18 season with a seventh place finish over the weekend at the Ithaca Invitational, held at the Providence Career & Technical Academy. 

The Golden Bears finished in a tie for seventh place with SUNY Oswego with 69 points. Stevens Institute of Technology claimed the team title with a score of 142 over the two day event, while Johnson & Wales (138) and Ithaca (129) finished second and third, respectively.

Top Performers
• Sophomore John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) highlighted the weekend for the Golden Bears with his third place finish at 184 pounds. Boyle registered pins against Chris Marchena of SUNY Oswego (3:52) and Logan Calkins of Rochester Institute of Technology (2:28).
• Senior captains Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) and Andrew Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and freshman Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) all finished sixth in their respective weight classes.

Western New England will be back in action next Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Springfield City Championships, hosted by Springfield Technical Community College.
