Nick Arborio Named NEWA Rookie of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 2, 2018) – Freshman Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) of the Western New England University wrestling team was named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week on Thursday afternoon.

Arborio helped the Golden Bears earn a 25-15 triumph over Castleton University (ranked No. 5 in NEWA) last Saturday night, as he registered a 15-4 major decision victory over Ryan Cabezas in the 125-pound bout.

The Berlin, Conn. native is now 23-8 this season and is tied with John Boyle for the team lead with 11 wins by fall. Arborio has also recorded three major decision victories and five wins by decision. He has placed in all four tournaments he has entered this season, including a first place performance at the Will Abele Invitational earlier this month.

Western New England will take on SUNY Sullivan, Trinity College, and the University of Southern Maine in a quad hosted by the Huskies on Saturday.
