Golden Bears Wrap Up First Semester with 36-6 Win at New England College

Boyle, Fortini & McLinden register pins for Western New England

HENNIKER, N.H. (December 8, 2017) – The Western New England University wrestling team wrapped up its first semester schedule with a 36-6 victory over New England College on Friday evening in New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) action at Bridges Gym.

• Najee Hall got New England College off to a strong start with a 10-6 decision over sophomore Alex Starr (Lebanon, Conn.) at 141. The Golden Bears rebounded to take the next three bouts, however, as senior Lamont Wallace (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.) picked up wins by decision at 149 and 165, respectively, while freshman Chris Gresis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded a 13-2 major decision at 157 to give Western New England the lead for good.
• The Pilgrims other win came courtesy of Malik Settles, who posted a 14-7 decision over junior Josh Nelson (Bristol, Conn.) at 174.
• Sophomore John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) improved to 15-2 this season as he pinned Carlos Garcia at 2:08, good for his team-leading seventh win by fall this year. .
• Western New England closed out the match with wins by senior Andrew Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) at 197, sophomore Nick Fortini (Deer Park, N.Y.) at heavyweight, freshman Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) at 125, and senior Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) at 133. Cole and McLinden registered major decision victories, while Fortini and Arborio won by fall.
