Boyle Leads Golden Bears to Eighth Place Finish at Doug Parker Invitational

Rowley, Mass. native finishes goes 5-0 and finishes first at 184 pounds

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 18, 2017) –
Led by sophomore John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.), the Western New England University wrestling team turned in an eighth place finish on Saturday at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College at the SC Field House. 

Boyle went a perfect 5-0 on the day on his way to first place in the 184 pound bracket. The Golden Bears finished with 68.5 points, good for eighth in the strong 18-team field.

Top Performers
• Boyle, who entered Saturday's action ranked second in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) individual rankings at 184 pounds, picked up four wins by decision and one by fall. He opened his day with a 7-3 decision over Ryan Gray of Springfield College, before pinning Max Fleming of Johns Hopkins at 3:45. Boyle also knocked off Plymouth State's Dylan Da Silva (10-4) and Coast Guard's Jeremy Berson (3-1), before topping Dominic Pirraglia of Wesleyan in the championship bout, 10-5.
• Senior Lamont Wallace (New Rochelle, N.Y.) placed fourth at 149 pounds with a 3-2 record on the day. Wallace cruised into the semifinals, as he opened the day by pinning Springfield's Juan-Carlos Ochoa Montoya after 49 seconds. The senior followed that up with major decision triumphs over Arfan Ali of Trinity (14-1) and Jared Garcia of Southern Maine (18-10), before dropping a 5-1 decision to Wesleyan's Carter Armendarez in the semifinal bout.
• Freshman Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) and senior Dom Liquori (Springfield, Mass.) placed sixth at 125 pounds and heavyweight, respectively.
