Boyle Places Fourth at NCAA DIII Championships

Sophomore went 1-2 during Saturday's action

CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 10, 2018) – Western New England University sophomore John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) placed fourth in the 184-pound weight class following the second day of action at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday at the Cleveland Public Auditorium.

After garnering All-America honors and reaching the semifinals with a pair of wins on Friday, Boyle went 1-2 on Saturday to finish fourth nationally among 18 wrestlers in his weight class.

With a berth in the finals on the line, Boyle dropped a 4-2 decision to third-seeded Tyler Lutes of Wartburg (Iowa) College in his first bout of the day.

Boyle then defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point junior Dan Squires, 3-1, before suffering a 14-2 major decision loss to Jake Ashcraft of Ithaca College, who he had previously pinned on Friday night to reach the semifinals.

Boyle's historic 2017-18 campaign comes to a close at 37-7. He is the ninth Golden Bear to earn All-America honors, and first since Abdul Shabazz in 1996-97.
