Western New England Takes Down Castleton on Senior Night, 25-15

Wallace, Cole record key wins for Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 27, 2018) –
The Western New England University wrestling team registered a 25-15 victory over Castleton University on Saturday evening in New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) action at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. 

Prior to the start of the match, Western New England honored its five seniors, Andrew Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y.), Lamont Wallace (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.), Dom Liquori (Springfield, Mass.) and Mike Garone (Melville, N.Y.) for their contributions to the program.

Western New England got off to a strong start against the NEWA's No. 5 ranked team, as freshman Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) recorded a 15-4 major decision victory over Ryan Cabezas at 125.  

The Spartans pulled ahead with wins at 133 and 141, however, before Wallace pinned Reese Millington at 149 to put the Golden Bears back in front (10-6).

After Cameron Milliken pinned sophomore Taylor Pfaff (Albany, N.Y.) at 157 to give Castleton a 12-10 edge, sophomore Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted a 10-5 decision over Ryan Haff at 165 to put Western New England ahead for good (13-10).

Sophomore Ryan Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.) won by forfeit at 174, before sophomore John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) and Cole picked up wins by decision at 184 and 197 to seal the win for the Golden Bears.

Western New England will be back in action next Saturday, as the Golden Bears travel to the University of Southern Maine for a quad meet with the Huskies, Trinity College and SUNY Sullivan.
