Boyle & Cole Earn Spots in Latest NEWA Individual Rankings

Boyle ranked second at 184 pounds, Cole debuts at No. 6 at 197

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 25, 2018) –
Two members of the Western New England University wrestling team earned spots in the latest New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) individual rankings, which were released on Thursday morning. 

Sophomore John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) moved up to No. 2 at 184 pounds, while senior captain Andrew Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) made his season debut at No. 6 in the 197-pound rankings.

Fresh off earning All-Tournament Team honors at the NEWA Duals on Sunday, Boyle broke into the national rankings at No. 10 in his weight class. He is 26-4 this season (26-1 against NCAA DIII competition) with 12 wins by decision and 11 by fall.

Cole is 14-13 this season following his 2-1 showing at the NEWA Duals. The senior captain is 14-13 this season with four wins each by decision and fall, three by major decision and two by technical fall.

Additionally, the Golden Bears are ranked tenth in the NEWA Coaches Poll Dual Meet Ranking after placing tenth at the NEWA Duals.

Western New England will celebrate Cole's career along with four other seniors prior to Saturday night's match against Castleton at the Alumni Healthful Living Center, which is scheduled for 5 p.m.
