Goodall & Boyle post wins for Golden Bears

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 21, 2017) –
Western New England University fell to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) by a 36-9 score on Tuesday evening in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) dual at Harrington Auditorium. 

Top Performers
• Sophomores Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.) and John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) led the way for the Golden Bears, as they were victorious at 165 and 184 pounds, respectively.

Match Review
• In the 125 pound bout, WPI senior Ben Zogby (Franklin, Mass.) surged ahead 10-9 with a takedown with 30 seconds remaining in the third period before Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) forced overtime by getting a point just before the final buzzer. Zogby eventually secured a 12-10 sudden victory with a takedown.
• WPI claimed the next four bouts to open up a 21-0 lead before Goodall got the Golden Bears on the board with a 4-3 decision over Chase Lind at 165.
• Boyle followed up his impressive showing at last weekend's Doug Parker Invitational with a win by fall over Ethan Di Renzo at 5:37 to give the Golden Bears six points.
• The Engineers picked up wins in the final two weight classes, capped by Austin Shrewsbury's 1-0 decision over sophomore Nick Fortini (Deer Park, N.Y.) in the heavyweight contest.

Up Next
Western New England (1-3) will be off until next Friday, when the Golden Bears host Rhode Island College in their home opener and Alumni Appreciation Night at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. WPI (3-0) travels to Rochester, N.Y. for the RIT Tournament next Saturday.
