Golden Bears Open CCC Play With 1-0 Win at UNE

Dixon nets game-winner for Western New England in 19th minute

BIDDEFORD, Maine (September 16, 2017) – The Western New England University women's soccer team opened Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 1-0 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at Barbara Hazard Field.

Top Performers
• Senior Danielle Dixon (Plainville, Conn.) scored the goal that would stand as the game-winner in the 19th minute on a feed from senior Marielle Caron (East Longmeadow, Mass.).
• Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) made eight saves en route to her third shutout of the season.

Match Review
• Western New England scored the only goal of the contest at the 18:59 mark when Caron played a ball into Dixon, who launched a shot from 25 yards out over the head of UNE junior goalkeeper Emily Ashman (Madison, Conn.).
• The Golden Bears led 1-0 at halftime, and Lemekha stopped both of the shots that she faced in the second half to preserve the victory.

• Western New England's win over UNE marks its first against the Nor'easters since a penalty kick victory in the 2011 CCC Tournament.
• The Golden Bears have won three straight games since starting the season 0-2-1.
• UNE outshot Western New England 14-11 and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
